WATER

Did you know about LA's plan on Securing the Water Supply?

Securing L.A.'s Water Supply is a blueprint for creating sustainable sources of water for the future of Los Angeles. It is an aggressive multi-pronged approach that includes: investments in state-of-the-art technology; a combination of rebates and incentives; the installation of smart sprinklers, efficient washers and urinals; and long-term measures such as expansion of water recycling and investment in cleaning up the local groundwater supply.

LADWP and Center for Embedded Networked Sensing

LADWP has been working with Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (based at UCLA but also includes UC Riverside and UC Merced) on sensor technology that can help measure energy and water consumption as well as technology that will actually reduce water and energy consumption (through motion detection, etc.). Professor Bill Kaiser from UCLA will soon be installing his sensor technology to several bathrooms in Los Angeles City Hall and other public buildings to create a baseline analysis of water consumption. This data will help LADWP determine what types of plumbing retrofits are required to reduce water consumption.
